The Old Challenge:
This all started a few years back (2010) when I came up with the following....
I am a mother of four daughters; 21, 17, 13 and 8. I have to say not only because I’m there mother but because I’ve been told so many times, they are some of the best kids anyone knows. They are well behaved, loving, giving girls and I’m very proud of them. BUT…. they have been spoiled their entire lives. We probably spend $300 to $400 each on them every Christmas and I just think the madness has to stop. Although they understand the meaning of Christmas and are very thankful for all their gifts, I feel like it’s time to tone it down a few notches and go back to the simpler times before iPods, lap tops and DVD players.
So here was the Challenge.....
We have decided that Christmas 2010 will be a “homemade” Christmas. I’m a photographer, I paint, draw, sew, crochet, cook etc. so why not.... right? So here is the impossible plan I’ve made for myself. I have to make all four girls a quilt in eight months so that I have time to crochet, paint, draw, photograph and/or cook any of their other gifts I decide to make before Christmas. (Keep in mind I work a full time job and although I sew, I have only made a couple of small baby quilts) So why call this Blog 1 year of quilts if I'm planning 8 months? Because I know how the real world works....
This blog will be a way to track my progress, see pictures of each step, and hear my trials and triumphs. I hope you will follow along and rejoice with me if I succeed or cry with me as I head to Best Buy to purchase yet another electronic Christmas.
Wish me luck! Terry
SO I DID IT!
While I got so busy I didn't keep up with the blog, I was able to complete all four quilts. They loved them and it was a huge success for me and my personal growth. It made me very confident that no matter how bad the quilt turns out, they will be loved because they were made with love! :)
THE NEW CHALLENGE......
To continue to work and quilt as often as I can. I have so many quilts in my head but so little time to do them. This will be my place to post about the current project/projects not only with quilting but also with raising four girls (now 11, 16, 19 and 23). Hope you join in the fun and give me advise along the way.
